Family Crests - For Your Family

Family Crests date back as far as we know to the 10th and 12th century, but since then quite a lot of the Coats of Arms that were recorded have been destroyed. The reason for this is that throughout the centuries Europe has been ravaged by conflicts and wars, and the buildings which held these recordings have been bombed or otherwise destroyed by fire and so on.

Family Crests and their Meaning.
Nearly all family names that originated in Europe had a Coat of Arms, and they are truly magnificent. The colors and intricate designs add specific meaning to the blazon of arms and it is believed that while some are similar, no two are exactly the same. If you are lucky enough to have a Coat of Arms and a Family Crest, then your are entitled to display this either at home or your office.

These specific rings are made from Sterling Silver or Gold and are believed to be one of the first signet rings in Europe. The have a practical side also, during the early centuries when men and women were incapable of reading and writing, these rings were used to make a wax seal on envelopes and important documents. You will see these wax seals also on important documents, and if you watch medieval movies the family crest rings are worn by the head of the clans.
